Ending human trafficking in Vietnam

Vy’s story
At six years old, little Vy had never known freedom.
Vy’s mother, Huyen, comes from an ethnic community in a mountainous area of northern Vietnam. Huyen had known hardship her whole life. After welcoming Vy to the world, she knew straight away she wanted to give her daughter a better future.
A relative took advantage of Huyen’s desire to provide safety and happiness for her child. She approached Huyen with a promising job offer in southern Vietnam.
But sadly, Huyen’s relative had no opportunity for her. 25-year-old Huyen and Vy, who was just five months old at the time, were taken to China. Huyen was sold and forced to marry a man she’d never met. Then, the traffickers planned to sell her daughter to the highest bidder.
But Huyen would not let that happen. She fought with all her strength to keep Vy by her side. She made it very clear to her traffickers that she was willing to accept her daunting fate but would go to any lengths necessary to keep her baby safe.
Huyen’s fierce resistance paid off and mother and daughter were allowed to stay together. For six long years, Huyen and Vy had no freedom, and at times they had no hope, but at least they had each other.
After a particularly complex operation, Blue Dragon rescued Vy and Huyen and brought them back home to Vietnam.
