“What Does Your Name Mean?”
One of the most frequently asked non-insurance questions we get is related to our name, Tenzing Pacific Insurance Services. So to shed some light on the origins of the name, we need to first introduce you to Tenzing Norgay.
Tenzing comes from the legendary Nepalese sherpa & mountaineer, Tenzing Norgay, who assisted Sir Edmund Hillary to become the first man to reach the top of Mr. Everest in 1953.
He was known as tireless worker who worked his way up & became part of a 1952 Everest expedition, that reached a then-record height.
In 1953 he was invited along to join another expedition, which included Edmund Hillary. During that trip, his quick actions saved Hillary’s life after a fall into a crevasse. This later led Hillary to select Norgay as his preferred climbing partner.
Later in that trip, the pair became the first men to ever summit the top of the world’s highest mountain.
A quote from Hillary about his guide & friend:
“I have never regarded myself as a hero, but Tenzing undoubtedly was”
Pacific comes from the fact that Sir Edmund Hillary was born at sea level on the Pacific coast of New Zealand.
